Since I started the WiseWoman Entrepreneurial Gardening Program in the spring 2012, I found the inspiration to try numerous vegetables, the encouragement to start walking, & the opportunity to start working on a Certified Natural Farm as a volunteer. All of this added together has impacted my physical health in many ways. I lost 20 lbs since just last year while eating all the food I want everyday (VERY important to me not to be hungry & have yummy tasting food). I heal cuts, scrapes & bruises in a day or two - previously it took weeks & I got infections. Nearly a year ago I was also able to stop taking all my medications (for cholesterol & Type II Diabetes), and I've never felt better. It has also impacted my mental/emotional health. I was really struggling emotionally with health, employment & relationship issues. With good nutrition & exercise my mind cleared & my hope has returned. I met some gals that have become VERY important to me. Our friendship has been an unexpected blessing, and our teamwork has helped a new farm blossom into a blessing for the community. My inspiration started with the nutrition classes. Who knew I would figure out how to use herbs in cooking, how to 'fill my shopping cart with color', & how to look at nutrition from a taste & fuel-for-the-body perspective. After that, a WiseWoman Field Trip to a farm (Golden Rule Farm in Kaleva MI). That tour changed my life. I remembered that I LOVE the land and growing things, & decided right then & there I HAD to find my niche in farming to support myself. I have been able to eat things I could never afford to buy & I have been able to stop buying prescriptions, so it has had a positive effect on my finances indirectly. I can't say where all this will end up as an actual income yet, but I CAN safely say I am heading the right direction to make that happen. So whatever comes in the future - I will always be grateful for this program & the path it set me on. Thank you to all who have had a hand in creating and supporting this program - it has literally changed my life!
